Privacy Policy

Sift is designed for local file analysis. Your file names, file contents, folder paths, scan results, and duplicate checks are not uploaded to us.

Information Sift processes

When you choose a folder, Sift reads information needed to analyze that folder, including file and folder names, paths, sizes, dates, and, when you request duplicate verification, file contents. This processing happens on your device.

Local scan index and settings

Sift stores its scan index, saved searches, scan locations, and preferences locally in your user profile. The index supports fast search and later review. You can clear stored scan indexes from Settings without deleting or changing the files being indexed.

No accounts or cloud sync

Sift does not require an account and does not provide cloud synchronization. We do not collect account credentials, passwords, payment details, or advertising identifiers through the app.

File cleanup

When you choose to remove an item, Sift asks the operating system to move it to the Recycle Bin. Sift does not permanently delete files. Recycle Bin availability and restoration are controlled by Windows.

External links and email

Sift can open the Microsoft Store for ratings and your email application for support. These actions happen only when you choose them. Microsoft and your email provider handle information under their own privacy policies. If you email us, we receive the address and content you voluntarily send and use it only to respond and resolve the request.

Diagnostics

Sift writes a local diagnostic log to help troubleshoot operation. The log remains on your device unless you choose to share it with support. Sift does not include analytics or telemetry reporting.

Children's privacy

Sift is a general-purpose utility and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Sift's behavior or legal obligations change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
